Monica Patel, Head of HR, Principal Asset Management, Principal Financial Group
2. Tell us about your role and what you're passionate about in your work.
In my role, I lead a team of HR Business Partners in the Asset Management business. We partner closely with business leaders to identify how their talent can enable them to achieve their business goals. This includes thinking about how we attract, retain and develop employees within the organization. I truly believe the way to maximize business goals is through it's people.
3. How long have you been a PSC member, and what inspired you to join?
I've been a member of PSC for just over two years. I joined to build my HR network here in NYC and to learn from others in the field of human capital.
4. What’s kept you engaged in the PSC community?
As a member of the board, I have met so many talented professionals across the area who care deeply about people and work and how we can all do our part to make that better and more engaging.
5. What's something others may not know about you—or a topic you'd love to connect with fellow members on?
As a first generation college graduate, I've had to overcome a lot of adversity to get to where I am. People may not gather that from my LinkedIn profile. I would be happy to connect with others who are working through challenging situations and looking for a sounding board or inspiration in their journey.
6. Is there a resource (book, article, podcast, etc.) you recommend to fellow members?
There are so many inspiring books out there. I recently read the "Reasons Not To Worry: How to be a Stoic in Chaotic Times" by Brigid Delaney which was exactly what I needed to hear and be reminded of.
